5:06 pm - No, seriously. HAN SHOT FIRST.
I have a lot of ire for George Lucas. )

What brought this to mind was, in part, the Remastered versions of Star Trek: TOS. Now, I kind of knew about them, but I had been sort of ignoring them because, well, the idea hurts my head. But it's Friday, and I was bored, so I actually started reading some of the reviews on Trekmovie.com.

And, oh my god, I have given myself a substantial headache trying to process it.

I knew they were making the ships and planets CGI and punching up some of the effects and all. What I did not realize, in my happy Land of Denial, was that they're not exactly doing shot-by-shot remakes of the edited scenes. TrekMovie has side-by-side screencaps of the old vs. the new scenes, and they are causing me mental anguish.

It may not seem like a minor difference, but they are CHANGING my history. DO NOT WANT.

I would consider actually trying to catch this in syndication (because they're running the remastered eps), but from what I read, they've been editing down the live-action scenes for added commercial space. (Like, say, the slashy slashy scene in "Requiem for Methuselah" where Spock mindmelds with a sleeping Kirk to make him forget his pain? They cut the part where McCoy talks to Spock first. Wtf.) And I think watching that just might make me cry.

9:24 pm - welcome back to the pilgrim state! here, have a turkey.
Gobble? )

Anyway! I am here and [info]con_txt was a blast. Something resembling a con report is still to come, but in the meantime: I am beset by many fond and happy thoughts of fandoms past and present, because there was a whole lot of "omg! I watched [showname] too!" happening at the con, and I got reminding of all these shows and movies I have been fannish about and never discuss these days.

So, talk to me! Tell me about your favorite small fandom, your favorite big fandom, the fandom you never talk about or the fandom you can't shut up about. Ask my opinion on whatever floats your boat! Try to stump the dork!

I have no turkey icons. The awfully gay cock will have to do.

2:12 pm - and more gay Navy cop show love. with screencaps!
Have you ever made 26 screencaps of about 8 seconds of screentime? I just did! Because spoilers for NCIS 5x14 Internal Affairs. image-heavy )

All 26 caps can be found in this gallery (spoilery for nothing really except boyfriendliness), or downloaded in a .rar file at:
hxxp://www.sendspace.com/file/05i064

If you view them as a slide show, you get a pretty decent silent-movie kind of clip. *g*

My fandom, made of confetti and hugs. Let me show you it!

12:14 pm - I got my head crushed last night! What'd YOU do?
So, in case y'all haven't heard (I only found out this week), the Kids in the Hall are touring for the next couple of months with all-new material!

I saw them at the Boston show last night (at the Wang Centre. obligatory hee), and they were awesome. (It didn't hurt that I was five rows from the stage. The up side to buying solo tickets.)

If they're coming to a venue anywhere near you, I highly recommend going. And, yes, there is Kid-on-Kid action onstage. *g*

4:16 pm - postapocawhiplash
For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture*, I've been rewatching Dark Angel on the iPod during my commute. And Jeremiah at home. And last night, I turned on the SciFi Channel mini-marathon of the first few eps of Jericho**, in anticipation of the second season premiere tonight.

And then my brain said, "Flag on the play!" and we had to take a time-out. Apparently, "three" is one too many alternate present/future timelines to be keeping track of in my head, and I got post-apocalyptic whiplash.

(I try to keep pretty much all the canon current in my head when I marathon a series. Being a giant dork is what I do. But is apparently not so good for the brain. Am still kind of ow.)

I've had kind of an uneasy love for post-apocalyptic universes ever since I saw the Mad Max movies, because, y'know, I've been a sci-fi dork forever, and dystopian speculative fiction is no less cool. But, damn, can it ever be depressing. Max's wife and son getting killed depressed the heck out of wee little me.

(Digression: Wikipedia tells me I was ten when Beyond Thunderdome came out, and I think my dad and I saw it in the theater and rented Mad Max and The Road Warrior around that time. In retrospect, my dad was a) pretty cool, b) a little crazy, or c) both...)

I don't have a point, really. Except, yay, Jericho returns!

~
* but might not be unrelated to the fact that my job is starting to feel a bit pre-apocalyptic. Also, Michael Weatherly is wicked pretty. As is Peter Stebbings.

** Dark Angel, Jeremiah, Jericho. We have no shortage of Biblical allusions here. Of course, the Bible is not without its own apocalyptic ending...

12:38 pm - happiness is mine!
For I have been waiting ever-so-patiently to pimp this, ever since--well, since I read the first draft. *g*

Office Romance by [info]shetiger.
NCIS, 12,000 words of DiNozzo/McGee goodness. And by "goodness," I mean "it actually makes my world a little better place that this story is in it."

Plus, there's porn. So what are you still doing reading this?

1:53 pm - NCIS ficlet: A Mute Observance (Tony/Tim/Abby, NC-17)
Written for the Porn Battle, prompts:
Tony/Tim, exposure, and Tony/Tim/Abby, spying. This is the unabridged version.

Titled unrepentantly swiped from Tennyson's Locksley Hall.

A Mute Observance )

(And just for the heck of it, the deleted scene, since I had to write it out anyway to get things organized in my head.)

4:54 pm - sold my soul to rock 'n roll*
*sekrit reference to sekrit person.

... so, like, I decided I was going to try not to post about negative things? And that seems to end with a whole lot of chirping crickets.

So: I am positive that I came very close to punching my boss in the face today! \o/

*ahem*

In actual positive-ish-ness-itude-itivity, [info]shetiger posted Four Ways They're Found Out (And One Way They're Not), which is DiNozzo/McGee, 2700 words, no spoilers, PG, and made me happy like a--person who did not almost punch her boss in the face today.

I, for my part, in response to the positive workplace environment in which I am employed, contributed to the Porn Battle on work time:

Stage Fright, Treatment Of (NCIS, DiNozzo/McGee, 390 words, rated, uh, porn)

(Actually, I am happy I wrote something, so, hey. *g*)

The Boy is off to Vegas today for a week of bachelor-party debauchery--or, he will be, once his connecting flight shows up in--Cleveland? Cinci? one of those non-Chicago C-towns. I wish I could say I have big plans for my solo three-day weekend--well, I mean, I could say it. It would just be a fib.

I--plan to have a plan. Or something.

2:47 pm - NCIS in syndication!
(I'm not really here.)

But! NCIS begins its syndication run on USA Network tonight at 9pm Eastern, starting with the first episode, "Yankee White." Two episodes every Wednesday, it looks like.

USA Network's NCIS site.

Go watch! It's not like there's a ton of original programming on opposite...

11:27 am - wow.
So, big story in Boston, not sure if it got any national exposure: gasoline tanker rolled over and exploded in Everett. Fire everywhere, houses destroyed, 145 people had to flee their homes in the middle of the night.

... yeah, that was just over a mile from my apartment.

(We're fine, totally not affected. Well, "mildly freaked out hearing about it," but that's nothing.)

I'm actually a little surprised we didn't hear it--the news was reporting that 40 cars exploded.

Um. Anyway. Tell me something shiny and fun?

In response to the NCIS ficlet I posted last night, [info]shetiger wrote the porny scene that I elided alluded to:

Egyptian Cotton

11:37 am - Boston-area WGA rally!
Courtesy of fans4writers.com.

On Friday, December 14th, there will be a WGA rally in Harvard Square. Guests so far include Joss (Buffy, Angel, Firefly) Whedon, Jaime (Eureka) Paglia, and Rob (The Daily Show) Cutner. (Joss has promised to use many long words.)

details )

I plan to be there--as a fan and a union member (university's union of clerical and technical workers), I feel like I can't not turn out to show my support. And if I am willing to drag my cranky Southern cold-loathing ass out for this, then the rest of you have no excuse!

Plus, Joss Whedon. \o/

Spread the word!

3:22 pm - "Be right back, fetching SPERM from the stacks"
Christ, people. Today, not only am I not the craziest person in my department, I'm scraping to make it into the top five.

Not only that, I had to spend ten minutes walking around with "Sperm Collection and Processing Methods: A Practical Guide" in my hand. It's... not a veterinary book.

I can just feel myself sliding further up the Kinsey scale.

~

And there there came the twenty-minute discussion of what color, size and text to use on a label smaller than my thumbnail.

Omgwtf, liberry. I'm going to have an aneurysm from the stupid.

4:06 pm - NCIS ficlet: Safety (DiNozzo/McGee, G)
Okay, that was the worst Thanksgiving I personally have ever endured (no family drama at all, lovely weather down in Miami, and... The Boy and I both managed to come down with a violent strain of the flu, go us), my flist is at skip=Firefox-is-laughing-at-me, and I owe comment replies.

Therefore, I post fic! (I almost died three days ago, I reserve the right to be self-indulgent and capricious.)

DiNozzo/McGee, G-rated, 800 words, no spoilers. Except for McGee's S5 hair.

2:52 pm - NCIS Fic: Resolved (DiNozzo/McGee, NC-17)
(I have shamelessly stolen [info]shetiger's header and notes word for word, except where I changed her reference to me to be my reference to her, because work is annoying me to the point of not being able to come up with my own. Also, I am deeply lazy. *g*)

Title: Resolved
Authors: [info]kageygirl and tigerlady ([info]shetiger)
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: McGee/DiNozzo
Rating: NC-17
Disclaimer: The universe and characters in the fic do not belong to us. We're not making any money off of this.

Summary: They've been dancing around this too long for it not to become inevitable. Especially when a little bit of old-fashioned wrestling between friends gets involved.

Notes: Once upon a time, [info]shetiger and I entertained ourselves in chat by coming up with a porny scenario for our boys. We cleaned it up, fiddled around with it a little, and promptly forgot about its existence on our harddrives. Until today. 2000 words, PMPP (Pretty Much Pure Porn). Enjoy!

Managing to post an episode tag before the next episode airs. I'm so proud of me! (Well, in a mocking, sardonic kind of way. I have a complicated relationship with me.)

Huge thanks to [info]misspamela for betaing and to [info]shetiger for her customary hand-holding and making things approximately seventeen times better than they started out. She knows how. *g*
